Pope Francis Declares every Fourth Sunday of July World Day of Grandparents and the Elderly


His Holiness, Pope Francis has instituted the World Day of Grandparents and the Elderly.

Taking to his official Twitter handle, @Pontifex, Pope Francis said, “Grandparents are the uniting link between generations to transmit to the young the experience of life and faith. Therefore, I have decided to institute the World Day of Grandparents and the Elderly which will be held annually on the fourth Sunday of July”.

With this development, grandparents and the elderly can now be celebrated worldwide with the same enthusiasm as Mother’s Day and Father’s Day

    I concur,grand parents and the elderly really need the support of the younger ones in that, they cannot labour anymore at the prime of their days. It is indeed heart breaking to experience how some people treat there grandparents and even the elderly in our societies.
    Kudos to the Supreme Pontiff for taking this bold step of recognizing an specially celebrating our elders.
