Jubilation as Abia Speaker Receives Hundreds of APC Members into PDP
It was a sort of harvest for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia on Sunday as the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji led other government functionaries and party officials to receive hundreds of APC members led by their leader, Comrade Ifeanyi Duke into the Peoples Democratic Party at Umuahia South Local Government Area of the State.
In his address, the Speaker welcomed Comrade Duke and his supporters to the PDP saying they would be accommodated and treated as every other PDP member with full rights and privileges.
“I am happy that you have accepted to work with us. You have really done well. The mammoth crowd that came out to welcome you and your numerous supporters to our great party is an eloquent testimony that you are a very popular politician who is well at home with the grassroots where it really matters most”, the Speaker said.
Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji who pledged to hand over a branded Sienna vehicle to Comrade Ifeanyi Duke also promised to support him financially in his Foundation through which he has been reaching out to members of his community. “This is the kind of venture I love, reaching out and giving back to humanity. I will support you in your Foundation. I will also reticulate the water borehole you have provided for the people,” the Speaker said.
Speaking on behalf of the other defectors, Comrade Ifeanyi Duke said he took the decision to decamp to the PDP following the massive infrastructural development going on in Abia State under Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and several other dividends of democracy being provided by the Governor for the people declaring, “with all these, the PDP has simply become unbeatable in Abia”. He thanked the Speaker, governmemt officials, PDP officials and members of the community who thronged out in their numbers for welcoming him and his supporters back to the PDP.
“The Speaker’s Direct Touch Initiative which has truly touched many lives and impacted communities positively was also instrumental to my return to PDP. I have been following in his footsteps by empowering youths myself and I commit to do more. That is why you all see this large crowd following me to rejoin our great party the PDP”, Duke said.
The Speaker thereafter announced the appointment of Mr Ndukauba Nwachinemere as his Special Assistant. Nwachinemere contested for a Councillorship positions at the last LGA elections in Umuahia South but lost.
Secretary to State Government, Barr Chris Ezem, Member representing Umuahia South State Constituency at the Abia State House of Assembly, Barr Jerry Uzosike, PDP stakeholders in Umuahia South led by the party chairman in the LGA, Mr Okezie Chinedu (Jalow) among others graced the event.
