Is Gov Ikpeazu a Saint?
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu Ph.D, has been governor for almost six years now.
It is a fait accompli that though qualified, but he never made himself a governor.
Some people must have come together, rally to market his candidacy.
This piece will be lacking in a major ingredient, if the name of the former governor, Senator T.A Orji (Papa Ukwu), does not receive a mention here.
Oh yes, he was the mastermind.
As history have it, Ikpeazu mounted the saddle on May 29, 2015, as the Executive Governor of Abia State.
This means that Ikpeazu rode to power on the wings of the political structure of Ochendo.
Shortly after this, political merchants started luring the new governor to build his political structure.
Not a few sold the idea of outright demystification of Ochendo.
A coterie of Ikpeazu’s aides started surreptitiously making unguarded utterances, fanning the embers of hatred against the former first family.
A few gladiators within the political industry wrote treatises on how Ochendo should be retired totally.
Characteristically of Ikpeazu, he agreed to all their machinations and assured them to strike at the right time.
It should be noted that most of these political jobbers never had the interest of the state at heart, but to destabilize the peace of the state and thereby making a profit therefrom.
But, Governor Ikpeazu, whom this writer describes as ‘a manager of political dangerous men’ saw through their shenaniganisms and preferred to thread on the part of peace.
In 2019, Ikpeazu oversaw the general election in Abia State as a sitting Governor.
He superintended all the congresses from the Wards to the State levels.
It is overwhelming to say that no life was lost occasioned by the electoral processes in Abia State.
With the way Ikpeazu has engineered the state, Abia has won awards both here and abroad.
Abia is adjudged as one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria.
A few days ago, Abia came number 3 as an investment destination in the country.
Has any of us pondered over the cost of political crises?
This, Ikpeazu has made sure that peace is better than instability.
For him, live and let others live has been his mantra.
On one occasion, this writer accosted him, and he said, “I will never allow anyone, no matter your station or otherwise to get me angry. For me, it is a sheer waste of both mental and emotional energies. We have work to be done.
That is more important than hawking anger at an emotional market “.
A glance at other states, from North, South, West, and East, no state can be compared with the political hygiene Ikpeazu has brought to bear in the last 6 years.
And this, can’t be monitized.
A case in point is what is happening in Imo State currently.
Never think for a second that the fight is for the masses, nay it is personal.
At the end of the day, the political marauders will take their profits off Imo state’s till.
For the records, those who think that Gov Ikpeazu doesn’t have a mind of his own are trying hard to plant crops on sandy soil.
For me, if you see Gov Ikpeazu, slightly bow, give him a compliment and a bottle of water, but it must be room temperature state.
